General G-Plasticoat Product Line Description:

Uncured Original Plasticoat looks like 2% milk with respect to color, viscosity, and opacity.  Thickened Plasticoat has a similar uncured color and opacity.  Original Plasticoat and Thickened Plasticoat cure to a clear, colorless final film.  Our line of Plasticoat Stain products are also low viscosity, and have an uncured opacity similar to Original Plasticoat.  When two or more coats are applied, Original Plasticoat, Thickened Plasticoat, and Plasticoat Stain produce a satin-to-glossy finish on most surfaces.  As these products cure, they form a plastic coating that is not oily or slippery.  Our line of Plasticoat Paint products have a conventional 'in can' and cured latex paint appearance.  Plasticoat Paint is available in high-gloss, satin, and matte finishes.  As these products cure, they form a plastic coating that is not oily or slippery.  When two coats of Plasticoat Stain or Original Plasticoat are applied at a thickness that achieves complete coverage, but without running or dripping, both cure to a micrometer-range final thickness.  Thickened Plasticoat and Plasticoat Paint form a noticeably thicker film.

Plasticoat Stain, Thickened Plasticoat, and Original Plasticoat dry quickly.  Depending on the texture and porosity of the substrate, temperature, and humidity, curing times of between ten and thirty minutes are typical for relatively smooth surfaces.  On rougher horizontal surfaces, such as asphalt and concrete, where some pooling is anticipated, longer curing times are expected.  Plasticoat Paint remains tacky for a few hours after application.  Do not allow the film to come in contact with water until completely cured.

All of our G-Plasticoat products form an airtight and waterproof barrier that is flexible, resilient, and durable.  They protect surfaces from the degrading effects of moisture, ozone, ultraviolet rays (UV), and oxidation.  They prevent mold, mildew, and moss growth.  G-Plasticoat products bond to a number of different materials.  Due to their flexible nature, they will not crack, chip, or peel, unlike most paints, lacquers, and varnishes.

G-Plasticoat products will not yellow with age.  They also will not blister on the recommended substrates at elevated temperatures up to 300o F.  When applied to substrates where surface wear is anticipated, the coating will wear instead of the substrate, thus extending the life of the substrate.  Additional coats of our products may be applied to a clean, dry surface at any time with no additional surface preparation.

Recommended Uses:

Original Plasticoat and Thickened Plasticoat products are recommended for use on a variety of materials including, but not limited to: vinyl, leather, latex and oil-based paints, wallpaper, metal, bare wood, stained or painted wood, lacquered or varnished wood, veneer, plastic, rubber, linoleum, grout, caulking, concrete, asphalt, brick, stone, stucco, fiberglass, ceramic tile, various types of shingles, etc.  Plasticoat Paint and Plasticoat Stain are designed for use on all of your typical stain and paint applications such as decks and fences, all types of wood substrates, dry wall, building exteriors, garage doors, etc.

Note:  None of our products are recommended for use on moving mechanical parts.  Only Thickened Plasticoat and Plasticoat Paint products are suitable on high-luster painted or metal surfaces (excluding automobile exteriors-Automotive Plasticoat will be available soon for this application).  Prepare a small test spot first to ensure that the desired results will be obtained.  Stainless steel is an especially difficult substrate on which to obtain a smooth final film.  Also, Thickened Plasticoat may not enhance the color or luster on shiny and/or polished surfaces.  Do not apply any of our products over oil-based coatings such as exterior wood stains that are not completely dry because any residual oil may prevent proper curing and film formation.

Surface Coverage:

Since Original Plasticoat and Plasticoat Stain have a significantly lower viscosity than latex paints and varnishes, they tend to penetrate deeper into porous substrates.  The benefit of deeper surface penetration is a more durable finish, relative to products that tend to remain on the surface.

A consequence of the surface penetration characteristics of these two low-viscosity systems, relative to our more viscous Thickened Plasticoat and Plasticoat Paint products, is a greater variation in surface coverage on porous versus non-porous substrates.  Examples of Original Plasticoat surface coverage values per gallon have been obtained for wooden decking material (first coat: 200-400 sq.ft. / additional coats: 500-900 sq.ft.) as a representative porous surface and for painted vinyl covered metal garage doors (first coat: 1000-2000 sq.ft. / additional coats: 3000-4000 sq.ft.) as a representative non-porous surface.  When using Thickened Plasticoat and Plasticoat Paint, expect a lower second coat coverage on porous surfaces, and lower first and second coat coverage on non-porous surfaces, because these products produce a thicker uncured and cured surface film.
