In order to evaluate the efficacy of the anti-mold feature of our products under extreme
conditions, we subjected Original Plasticoat to ASTM Method D4445-03, ‘Standard Test
Method for Fungicides for Controlling Sapstain and Mold on Unseasoned Lumber’.
In accordance with this method, two coats of Original Plasticoat were applied to pieces of
unseasoned sapwood. These test samples were then inoculated with spores from several
types of fungi, and placed in a high humidity chamber maintained at 25o C (77o F) for
The testing was performed by Dr. David J. Westenberg, who is an Associate Professor of
Biological Sciences at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly known
as the University of Missouri-Rolla). Dr. Westenberg described the test results this way:
“When applied as directed (two coats) the plasticoat (with micro-biocide) treated wood shows
no fungal growth after continuous exposure for a period of 8 weeks whereas untreated and
non-micro-biocide treated samples showed fungal growth after less than 2 weeks of exposure."
