The two products recommended for this application are Original Plasticoat and Plasticoat Stain.  Thickened Plasticoat may also be used, but will not penetrate into the leather as effectively.  Plasticoat Stain is only recommended when color is desired in the final finish.

All three products shine, protect, and waterproof both soft leather and many hard leather items.  Recommended uses include, but are not limited to:  shoes and boots, leather clothing, belts, purses, hats, wallets, briefcases, luggage, saddles, tack, leather car seats, etc.  Due to the waterproofing property of these products, they will affect leather's ability to 'breathe'.  Consequently, depending on individual preferences, discretion is advised when considering applying on automobile interiors, and on clothing items such as shoes, boots, leather pants, leather skirts, and leather coats.

As a recommendation, when applying to shoes and boots, treat only the heal and toe areas, the seams, and the sides to about an inch up from the soles, to waterproof, and prevent the threads from rotting.  These products also seal in the natural oils, which prevents the leather from drying out and cracking.  Original Plasticoat and Thickened Plasticoat enhance the color of natural leather and will partially to fully restore faded color coatings applied to leather.  The extent to which a surface is restored will depend on its condition at the time it is treated.  For shoes and boots, this feature may eliminate the need for shoe polish.

On items where surface wear is anticipated, such as car seats, G-Plasticoat will wear instead of the substrate, thus extending the life of the substrate.  Periodic inspection of treated areas on high surface wear items is recommended.  Places where the coating appears to be wearing thin, as evidenced by a loss of luster and/or renewed color fading, should be recoated.  Oils and resins from other leather treatments previously applied may prevent these products from wetting evenly and/or curing properly, so should be removed first.  As a suggestion, use a cloth or paper towel, with or without rubbing alcohol.

At least two coats are recommended.  It is always advisable to prepare a small test area first to assure desired results.  Leather items treated with G-Plasticoat should be cleaned with a damp cloth or a mild detergent and water solution.  Avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners and solvents.
